Guardians of the Guanabara Bay - Cinematography and Editing for the Behner Stiefel Center for Brazilian Studies at San Diego State University, USA. 
"Guardians of Guanabara Bay" is a series of short ethnographic films that explore the relationship of love and care between artisanal fishermen and Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
#1 - In this video, we introduce Alvaro (Toroca) Costa and his daily struggle to sustain life in the mangroves of Tubiacanga, Ilha do Governador.
#2 - In this video, we showcase Marlúcia and Rafael and their daily struggle as a mother and son to sustain life in the mangroves located along the Suruí River in the city of Magé. Marlúcia is one of the founders of the Associação de Caranguejeiros e Amigos do Mangue de Magé (ACAMM), one of the most significant community associations advocating for the rights of artisanal fishermen in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Her son Rafael has emerged as a key leader in the region.
#3 - In this video, we introduce Alexandre Anderson, a fisherman and activist, along with the Environmental Fishing Patrol, a movement initiated by the Guanabara Bay fishermen's collective. Their goal is to observe and report environmental violations committed by the oil industry and shipyards. Alexandre is a co-founder of the Association of Men and Women (AHOMAR), an organization established in 2007 to lead the fishermen's battle against pollution and oil spills in Guanabara Bay.
